Digital Bookmobile Comes to Central Library!
June 9, 2010
A high-tech version of the traditional bookmobile that has served local communities for decades will soon visit Indianapolis and provide an immersive experience for all ages.
The Digital Bookmobile, a 74-foot, 18-wheel national touring vehicle operated by OverDrive, Inc., will appear on Tuesday, June 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Central Library downtown, 40 E. St. Clair Street, and help promote the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library's collection of downloadable eBooks and audiobooks.
The vehicle is equipped with broadband Internet-connected PCs, high-definition monitors, premium sound systems, and a variety of portable media players. Its interactive computer stations will give visitors an opportunity to search IMCPL's digital media collection of eBooks and audiobooks.
Five interactive stations will include the Digital Catalog, where visitors can discover bestselling authors, new release titles and classic works. The Audiobook Alley will allow them to browse IMCPL's digital collection of audiobooks, listen to excerpts, utilize the OverDrive Media Console, and transfer sample titles to an MP3 player. In the eBook Experience, users can test eBook reading software, learn about popular eBook formats, and discover the unique reading experience offered by modern eBooks. Technophiles will enjoy the Gadget Gallery, where they can test drive popular players and readers and discover how portable devices can enhance the digital download experience. And in the Video Lounge, a huge high definition screen will show an array of popular films and documentaries in a comfortable theater setting.
