Improved use and navigation of online services and quicker access to important library information are key features of The Indianapolis Public Library’s updated web site (

In creating a web site that’s easier to use and visually more appealing, the Library has incorporated its new logo and branding while complying with evolving web standards that allow for correct display on personal devices and better integration of social media. Patrons will find a new “branch finder” widget on the homepage that gives them faster access to hours, locations, and branch information. The site also provides regularly updated quick links to Library news, events and blogs.

Library users can conduct their library business with easily identifiable links to search the catalog of materials, place holds and manage their accounts. The site offers links to access the Library’s growing collection of eBooks, audiobooks and other downloadables. The “Research” link takes users to an array of databases and academic help services as well as the Library’s foreign language learning service. The popular “Reader’s Connection” gives patrons an opportunity to read and offer their own book reviews, check new booklists and learn of upcoming literacy activities at the Library. There’s also a “Kid’s Blog” that can turn young ones on to the world of books and helpful information guides.

The redesigned web site, which includes new photography of all branch locations, supports the Library’s mission to promote lifelong learning throughout the community. Often referred to as the “Web Branch,” the new site will continue to receive a facelift in the coming months with updated catalog pages and consistent references to the Library’s name.

In 2011, the Library’s web site achieved over 9.5 million visits.
