New Indy Library Trustees Appointed

The Indianapolis City County Council has appointed Vanessa Villegas López, and the Marion County Commissioners have appointed Lillian L. Charleston to four-year terms on The Indianapolis Public Library Board of Trustees.
Of Puerto Rican, Irish and Colombian descent, López moved to the U.S. at the age of eight and grew up in Bloomington, Indiana. In 2008, she opened her own Indianapolis law office, Lopez Law Office P.C. She earned her B.A. in Spanish/Sociology at Indiana University, Bloomington, and J.D. at the Robert H. McKinney School of Law, Indiana University, Indianapolis. A Washington Township resident, López has been actively involved as a board member of such organizations as the Indianapolis Bar Foundation, La Plaza, Hispanic Business Council, SADCO (Friends of Colombia), Latino Affairs Committee, and the I.U. Robert H. McKinney School of Law Alumni Association.
Charleston retired after 20 years as Affirmative Action Officer at IUPUI where she held other leadership positions. Charleston is an Indianapolis native who lives in Washington Township. She earned a B.S. degree and double M.S. degree from Indiana University where she was a HUD fellow. Her civic engagements include an appointment to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Development Commission and service in the Neal-Marshall Indianapolis Alumni Club of the IU Alumni Association, and as an IPS tutor and national and regional director of the American Association for Affirmative Action.
López and Charleston join the five other members of the Library Board of Trustees which meets the fourth Monday of each month at various Indy Library locations. Meetings are open to the public.
