Construction Contract Awarded for Southport Branch Renovation

The Indianapolis Public Library Board of Trustees has awarded a construction services contract to Mezzetta, Inc. of Indianapolis, Indiana in the amount of $938,900 for the renovation of the Southport Branch Library, 2630 E. Stop 11 Road. The company was selected among eight bidders who participated in a public bid process.
The preliminary project schedule targets a beginning construction date of January 18, 2016, and a completion date of July 1, 2016.
The overall $1.1 million project will be the first major upgrade to the 16,000-square-foot branch since its opening in 1974. It will include moving the building's main entrance to the north for better access to the adjacent parking lot and shifting the location of the community/meeting room to the west. A large open area will greet patrons near the entry and checkout desk and lead them through a space of new materials, seating, public computers and service points. Additional seating and tables equipped with electrical outlets will allow patrons to use or charge their personal devices while connected to enhanced Wi-Fi. Other features include updated and fully-accessible restrooms, integrated AV technology, a relocated outside book drop, updated heating/air conditioning systems for energy savings, and an area for future automated materials handling.
This and other capital projects, which include an additional 25,000-square-foot branch to serve Perry Township opening in mid-2019, are funded from individual bonds approved by the Indianapolis City-Council Council totaling over $58 million that will be assessed without any increase in the Library's current debt service tax rate.
