May 2, 2016 — Two branches of The Indianapolis Public Library that continue to operate as original Carnegie Libraries constructed in the early 1900s have been named to the National Register of Historic Places.
April 26, 2016 — At its regular meeting on April 25, 2016, The Indianapolis Public Library Board of Trustees unanimously approved a merger of the Beech Grove Public Library, effective June 1, 2016. The action follows a unanimous vote on April 12 by the Beech Grove Public Library Board of Trustees to support a merger with IndyPL and is based on recommendations of a Merger Planning Committee comprised of representatives from each entity.
April 22, 2016 — The Indianapolis City-County Council has appointed two new members to The Indianapolis Public Library Board of Trustees.
April 18, 2016 — Indianapolis, Indiana, Date- Families and children of all ages are invited for a celebration of language and literacy in support of Reach Out and Read Indiana during the community "Read IN" event on Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Central Library, 40 E. St. Clair Street.
April 13, 2016 — With the ability to serve more individuals in underserved areas, The Indianapolis Public Library's two new Bookmobiles will provide enhanced technology and greater programming capability to supplement the delivery of books and other materials to juvenile day cares, after-school locations and neighborhoods.
April 6, 2016 — The Indianapolis Public Library Board of Trustees has appointed John Helling as Director of Public Services. Helling will direct the services and programming of the Library's current 23 branch system, develop public service policy and community engagement activity, and participate in strategic planning and assessment as a member of the Library's Executive Committee.
April 1, 2016 — Indianapolis residents of all ages are invited to tell how the Library has transformed their lives and enjoy a variety of special programs presented by The Indianapolis Public Library during National Library Week, April 10 -16, 2016. This annual commemoration, first observed in 1958, celebrates the contributions of libraries and librarians in improving lives and making communities better places to live.
March 25, 2016 — Beginning April 3, work to renovate and expand the East Washington Branch of The Indianapolis Public Library, 2822 E. Washington Street, will necessitate the branch's closure until a nearby temporary facility can become operational to provide limited services for the duration of the seven-month construction project.
March 23, 2016 — Children of all ages and families are invited to hear members of the Indiana Pacers read their favorite stories in children's literature during "Call-a-Pacer" on The Indianapolis Public Library's 24-hour Call-a-Story telephone line.
March 21, 2016 — The Warren Branch of The Indianapolis Public Library, 9701 E. 21st Street, will be closed on Tuesday, March 29 and Wednesday, March 30 for necessary interior construction as part of the first major renovation of the 15,740-square-foot facility since it opened in 1974.
