Community Forums Planned for New Eagle Branch Library

February 22, 2017

Westside residents of Indianapolis are invited to offer their suggestions for a new branch of The Indianapolis Public Library to replace and relocate the current Eagle Branch during a series of community forums beginning Monday, March 6 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at Enlace Academy (former site of IPS School #108), 3725 N. Kiel Avenue.

Architects from Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf Architects, library planners from Kimberly Bolen and Associates and representatives from the Library will provide an overview of the planned project and receive citizen input on what features and services should be included.

The new 20,000-square-foot library will replace the current Eagle Branch at 3325 Lowry Road and relocate to a 3.66 acre site at 3939 N. Moller Road. The new location will maximize the public's access to services, collections and technology in the West 38th Street/Lafayette Road redevelopment area and improve Library visibility. The larger facility will offer more spaces for children, teens and adults, a computer lab, greater seating and access to public transportation.

The series of community forums will continue on Wednesday, March 8 from 4 – 5:30 p.m. and on Tuesday, March 14 from 6 – 7:30 p.m., also to be held at Enlace Academy.

Construction on the $7.9 million project is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2018 with anticipated completion in the first quarter of 2019.

This and other capital projects identified in the Library's Strategic Plan through 2020 are funded from individual bonds approved by the Indianapolis City-Council Council totaling over $58 million to be assessed with no increase in the Library's current debt service tax rate.
