Cret Building at 100: An Exhibit

This special exhibit celebrates the architecture, people and stories of the Library’s Cret Building that played an integral part in defining the city’s character 100 years ago and remains vibrant and culturally significant today. Eighteen full-color, illustrative and interpretive panels designed by RLR of Indianapolis showcase over 50 images and artifacts from Central Library’s Nina Mason Pulliam Indianapolis Special Collections Room. “The Cret Building at 100,” made possible by a generous grant from Katz, Sapper & Miller, will be on display around the balcony of the historic Simon Reading Room during regular Central Library hours.

Patrons are invited to view an exhibit of photos depicting the beauty of Central Library, focusing on its historic and modern elements and selected from entries in the recent Central Library photo contest held in celebration of the Library's 100th anniversary. Photographs were chosen by a panel of judges from the Riviera Camera Club. This project is made possible by the support of the Indiana Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. Additional support was provided by Buckingham Companies and Friends of the Library through gifts to The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation. The exhibit is on display in Central Library's South Display Hall during regular Library hours.
An opening reception, free and open to the public, will be held on Tuesday, November 7 from 6 - 7 p.m. in Central Library's South Display Hall.

Patrons are invited to learn how to select and use eReaders, as well as search and download materials from the Library's extensive collection of eBooks, audiobooks and digital music. Patrons can drop in anytime during this two-hour visit by the Library's traveling eBook Tinker Station, which is staffed by an eReader expert who can answer questions about the equipment and collection. The Station provides reliable and unbiased information about this growing technology. The Tinker Helpline is also available to call for answers to your questions at 317-275-4500. This service is made possible by Comcast Heartland Region, the ALA/Information Today Library of the Future Award, and Friends of the Library through gifts to The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation.

SAVI (Social Assets and Vulnerabilities Indicators -- www.savi.org) is a free online information system that helps you map, compare and store data about 2,000 Central Indiana communities. SAVI’s comprehensive, up-to-date statistics on housing, education, crime, and much more help businesses and organization create the charts, graphs, maps, and other results to make data-informed decisions. This introductory class, to be held in the Computer Training Lab, provides an overview to help participants decide whether they want to learn more about how to use SAVI.
