DIY Clubhouses, Forts & Models

Build your Own Fort, Igloo and Other Hangouts A lazy summer day is a great time to build your own fort or clubhouse. Listed below are two kinds of books. You can get ideas for help getting started on a model-size structure like a fairy house, lego or minecraft creation, or you can get ideas for a fort, clubhouse or tree house that you can build for yourself and your friends. There are also some books about interesting architects. Architects are people who design the homes and buildings we live and work in. They are artists who create on a giant scale.

You can visit your neighborhood branch this summer to take a class from a real architect. You can learn some useful building principles and practice them on your own model. Maybe you can make a kid-size version later!

Character Clubhouse Design Class – Children ages 6 and older are invited to join Next Great Architects to design a clubhouse for their superhero or favorite character. They’ll learn a bit about architecture while they build. Participants are asked to bring a shoebox or small box. This program is made possible by Friends of the Library through gifts to The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation. Branch Schedule
