There are many events for all ages happening at IndyPL locations throughout the spring months. We are a great place to listen to music, hear stories, make a craft, or read to dogs! Make a selection, mark your calendar, load up your friends and family, and join us!

Meet the Artists XXXII Exhibit

View the works of prominent local African American artists during one of Indianapolis' premier cultural events. Works representing a variety of artistic mediums are on display for public viewing throughout Central Library during regular Library hours.

Adults are invited to learn about the wonderful world of eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines, eVideo and eMusic that can be freely accessed from the Library's website. This class can free individuals from the limitation of having to find and carry around physical items, especially when traveling!


Genealogy Learning Series
Beech Grove
March 23 - Grandma Said: Using Old Family Stories and Photos
Join members of the Samuel Bryan Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for an introduction to multiple genealogy research topics and resources that can enhance family history searches. Sessions, both progressive and stand alone, are geared for beginning and intermediate learners.


Preventing Food Waste

Join the Marion County Health Department nutrition services staff to learn how to reduce food waste at home. Learn some delicious recipes and food scrapping techniques during this program designed to save money and the environment.


Appliance Cooking Class
Various locations this month and next month
Join the Marion County Public Health Department nutrition services staff to learn to use convection oven toasters, air fryers and instant pots to prepare healthy dishes. Samples will be provided.


Volunteer Income Tax Assistance: Free Tax Preparation
East 38th Street
IRS-certified volunteers will provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals. Fridays and Saturdays thru April 11th. Call 317-275-4352 to schedule an appointment.


ABCs of Diabetes

Adults are invited to a free, four-part diabetes education series instructed by the Marion County Health Department. Topics include eating healthier, increasing activity, taking medications, and preventing complications. Attendees should plan to attend all four sessions at a given Library location.

Adults are invited to Central Library's Makerspace to experience the fun of creating paper and fabric craft projects using a Cricut Maker electronic cutting machine. Basic materials will be provided.


3D Printing
Central Library this month and next month
Adults ages 18 and older are invited to learn the basics of 3D printing from concept to creation using Tinkercad and the 3D Systems Cube Printer. Dream it, design it, print it! This program is made possible by Friends of the Library through gifts to The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation.

Adults are invited to Central Library's Makerspace for a unique craft program involving the art of bookfolding. Registration is required.


Papercrafting

Adults are invited to Central Library's Makerspace to create seasonally-themed paper crafts using rubber stamps, embossing folders and scrapbooking tools.

Teens are invited to drop in and enjoy board and card games. Attendees are welcome to bring their own games from home. Light snacks will be provided.


Chess Clubs

Chess players of all ages and skill levels are invited to learn to play or get better at playing chess.


Dungeons & Dragons

Teens are invited to join the D&D 5E club. No experience is needed and materials are provided. Have fun with friends and let your imagination run wild!

Individuals of all ages are invited to join the Library's Minecraft Club and participate in Minecraft activities with others.

Preschoolers ages 3 - 6 are invited to join Ripple Mobile Arts to explore their creative side as a little author. They'll draw, color and create their own little books. Registration is required.

Toddlers ages 24 - 36 months and an adult are invited to join JumpBunch of Indianapolis for an introduction to sports and games. Registration is required.

Preschoolers ages 3 - 5 are invited to get ready to move with JumpBunch of Indianapolis. Leap 'tall buildings,' run 'faster than a lightning bolt,' or build strong muscles to 'save the day!' Registration is required.





Camping with Silly Safaris

Preschoolers ages 2 - 6 are invited to join Silly Safaris for a camp out and to meet their favorite forest animals. Pet and hold some amazing animals and enjoy campfire stories! This program is made possible by Friends of the Library through gifts to The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation.



Baby Arts Play Various Locations this month and next month Babies and toddlers up to age 2 and an adult are invited to engage in storytelling and songs with sensory and motor skills, emergent language, spatial awareness, object permanence and body movement activities. Registration is required for each child attending. Parents need not register themselves.



Slime Class for Kids Various locations this month and next month Children and teens ages 6 - 17 are invited to create their own slime with Ripple Mobile Arts. Add beads, foam, clay or sand, choose a color, and practice many fun exercises with your new slime!


L.E.A.R.N Lego and Robotics Engineering Night Central Library Explore science, technology, engineering, art and math through guided and open-ended LEGO projects. Work individually or with friends and family on short and long-term projects. Activities will be best for LEGO engineers over 6. Children under 12 must bring an adult. this month and next month


Tortilla Cooking Class for Kids Various locations this month and next month Children ages 6 - 12 are invited to join Nutrition Services of the Marion County Health Department for a hands-on tortilla-making experience and cooking lesson.


Drawing Manga 101 Various locations this month and next month Kids and teens are invited to join Art With a Heart to learn the basics of Manga-style drawing and incorporate storytelling through the characters' facial expressions. Each participant will take home a step-by-step Art With a Heart drawing booklet and a starter set of colored pencils.


Teddy Bear Concerts Central Library Preschoolers and kindergartners with their families are invited to be introduced to the orchestra through story, movement and live music. ISO violinist Victoria Griswold has written each story, two of which are available as picture books, to be performed by five ISO musicians. Teddy bears welcome! Schedule


Hot Jazz for Cool Kids Central Library Children and families are invited to a series of free performances by Indy's leading jazz musicians. It's a way to share jazz music with children that will be fun for everyone! Presented by the Learning Curve at Central Library in partnership with The Indianapolis Jazz Foundation and Indy Jazz Fest. Schedule


Paws to Read Various locations this month and next month Young ones who need to practice their reading skills are invited to tell a story to trained therapy dogs. Reading to dogs has been shown to increase children's reading skills and confidence.


Fruit & Veggie Yoga Various locations this month and next month Preschoolers ages 3 - 6 are invited to join the Marion County Health Department for a fun and interactive read-aloud story program focused on gardening and plants. This will be followed by children learning yoga poses based on various fruits and veggies and a snack with healthy fruits or veggies. Registration is required.
