Women Writers, Storytellers and Poets

Brave Jane Austen is a picture book biography of the novelist Jane Austen. She is recognized as one of the most important and influential writers of all time. Her most famous books are Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, and Emma. She liked to write about strong women characters and she was one herself! Listed below are biographies and autobiographies of other women writers. Some of them are the authors of books you probably like to read like J.K. Rowling, Kate DiCamillo, Lois Lowry, Judy Blume and Beverly Cleary.

"Stories, both real and imagined, show what girls can do. The stories of women’s lives, and the choices they made, encourage girls to think larger and bolder, and give boys and men a fuller understanding of the female experience."

~National Women's History Project
