2019 Kids Summer Reading Program Events & Programs

Workshop Schedule:

Mask Art Class with Mr. Tony - Children ages 5 - 12 are invited to join artist Tony Radford to make their own mask masterpiece.
This month

Cardboard Portrait Art Class - Young people and teens ages 6 - 17 are invited to join Ripple Mobile Arts to create and decorate a self-portrait or a portrait of a favorite movie, game or book character.
This month

Duct Tape "Squishy" Art Class - Young people and teens ages 6 - 17 are invited to make a toy for themselves or a friend in this class led by Art With a Heart. Due to the hands-on instructional nature of the session, we ask that attendees arrive on time. Late arrivals, 5 minutes late or later, will not be able to join the class.

Super Structure Design Class for Kids - Children ages 6 and up are invited to join Snapology in a session to design and build super structures. They'll learn a bit about architecture while building with Legos.

Minnetrista Theatre Preserves Presents "Little Red Riding Hood" - Children of all ages are invited to a performance that pays homage to the classic story of "Little Red Riding Hood" while putting a new spin on it. Characters explore the diverse interpretations of the story, including a new version set in space!

Story Book Food Class for Kids - Children ages 6 - 12 are invited to read and follow a recipe inspired by children's story books or children's cook books. The Marion County Public Health Department will help them try chopping, blending, mixing and measuring ingredients. Due to the instructional nature of this class, late arrivals over 5 minutes past start time may not be allowed to join and will be referred to other sessions.

Blastoff with Magic Show - Children of all ages and families are invited for a fun, interactive magic show by Daniel Lusk.

Fever Summer Reading Tour - Indiana Fever players, coaches * alumni will share their favorite children's stories. Each child at the Reading Timeout will receive a book fo their own to take and home and have the opportunity to play the Fever Dice Game for their chance at winning a variety of Fever prizes. This month

Animal Meet & Greet with Silly Safaris - Meet up to three live critters during this casual drop-in session with Silly Safaris. Ask questions and take pictures while the animals are there!

Animal Shows with Silly Safaris - Sit down with Silly Safaris and enjoy this show about animals. Three to five live animals will be on hand.

Hedgehog Hannah Animal Show - Join Hedgehog Hannah to learn about a few animal creatures, one of which is most likely a tarantula!

Paws to Read - Beginning or reluctant readers ages 6 - 11 are invited to read to a registered therapy dog who loves to listen to stories. It's a great way to improve a child's reading skills and self-confidence.

Snakes! with Take Flight - Experience the truth about these much-maligned reptiles during this presentation by educators from Take Flight Wildlife.

Teen Zine Making Workshop - Teens are invited to make their own mini self-published, D.I.Y.-style ZINE. Learn to plan, design and create your own ZINE. Whether you like comics, fiction, art, or even cake, the subject matter is limited only by your imagination!

Teen Paint Your "Art" Out Mini Figures - Do you paint miniatures for tabletop gaming? Do you have miniatures that you want to finish painting? Are you a beginner who wants to learn to paint mini figures? Whether you are a pro or just learning to paint, join us and paint your own mini figure. One mini supplied per teen. You’re welcome to bring your own mini figures too!
This month

Video Editing Workshop 101 for Teens - A four week program teaches teens to shoot and edit videos that they will create. Teens ages 12-18 will create a script, do voice overs and add music to their final project. They must attend all sessions (June 22, June 29, July 6 & July 13) and will receive an incentive upon successful completion. This month
