Men in top hats gathering around a burrow to lure a large rodent out to see if it casts a shadow to make a weather prediction is an unusual tradition! Odder still is that a sunny day, which will cast a shadow, means MORE winter, not less. That seems backwards!

Checking on one's shadow is not a very scientific way to predict the weather, but Groundhog Day is a perfect time to talk about the science of shadows! Listed below are books and activities to help you explore shadows with your child.
