Indianapolis Public Library Appoints Elizabeth Schoettle as Director of Central Library

The Indianapolis Public Library (IndyPL) is pleased to announce that Elizabeth Schoettle has been appointed Director of Central Library. Her appointment will be effective January 28.

Schoettle will oversee the staff, facility, and activity of Central Library, providing leadership and direction in support of The Library's goals through staffing, training, performance management, and directing workflow across all departments.

"Central Library is a cornerstone in our city," said Schoettle. "We have unique collections with historical and cultural significance in a beautiful, free public space. My commitment extends to fostering community through programs, resources, services, and partnerships so that generations to come will benefit from the wealth of knowledge and opportunities offered. It's a true privilege to serve the Indianapolis community in this way."

Schoettle has served The Indianapolis Public Library for more than 12 years, rejoining IndyPL when the Beech Grove Public Library, where she worked as the director, merged with The Indianapolis Public Library system. She has more than 23 years of management experience and served as supervisor librarian of the community engagement team at Central Library for more than three years. Most recently, she served as Area Resource Manager of the West Region, overseeing our seven West Region Branches.

“Throughout her career, Schoettle has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the mission and core values of The Indianapolis Public Library,” said Gregory Hill, CEO of The Indianapolis Public Library. “We are excited to see her take on this significant role.”

Central Library is located at 40 East. St. Clair St., Indianapolis, IN 46204 and is the flagship location to the 25 branches of the Indianapolis Public Library. The Indianapolis Public Library is in the middle of celebrating its 150th year of public service to Indianapolis.
