The Shared System is an interlibrary collaboration between The Indianapolis Public Library, 66 schools, and five special libraries (including three museums*). The System allows members and students to use their IndyPL Library cards to borrow materials from their own library, other Shared System libraries, as well as IndyPL's collection.
*Museum collections are reference only. Library users may visit the museum libraries to view the materials found in our catalog.
Students at Shared System member libraries have access to their own library's collection as well as over 2 million additional IndyPL books, resources, and databases. These students have unique access to a city's worth of resources without ever having to leave their school or community library.
Additionally The Indianapolis Public Library shares its catalog with three local museums, the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, the Indiana Medical History Museum, and the Indianapolis Museum of Art. All three museums’ collections are for reference use only. By sharing our catalog with them, all of our library users, theirs and ours, can find books on topics of interest. Their librarians are wonderful resources and would be happy to welcome you!
