History
Established as the Broadway Branch in 1924, the library served the neighborhood from a frame house on E. 42nd Street until 1958 when a 6,500-square-foot facility opened on Broadway Street. This aging and overcrowded building was replaced in August 2000 with the current 16,000-square-foot structure on College Avenue that was renamed the College Avenue Branch.
Dementia Friendly Certified
The College Avenue Branch staff completed Dementia Friendly Business Training to learn the basics of dementia and how to create an environment that supports those living with dementia and their care partners as individuals.

Join us on Saturday afternoons to match wits and skill with this Chess Club, meeting for over 40 years at College Avenue Branch Library! All ages and skill levels are welcome. This group meets in the Fish Room.
Harp Music & Stories
College Avenue Branch
Babies and toddlers will be introduced to the music of a concert harp in this program with Arts for Learning teaching artist Melissa Gallant. Join us to learn that music brings stories to life through feelings and emotions!
Camilla Paints the Town
College Avenue Branch
Camilla the Chameleon has only known black and white, but she discovers her color and sees the world with newfound wonder. This story weaves in the music of famous composers while teaching children about believing in themselves. Performed by the Indianapolis Opera. Lasts approximately 45 minutes.
