Josh Crain

Hi. My name is Josh Crain and I'm the Manager of the Decatur Branch. When I'm not at the branch, I enjoy riding my bicycle (ask me about the Library's Book Bike!), watching Mystery Science Theater 3000, reading Terry Pratchett and getting way too worked up about Purdue's basketball team. In addition to running the Book Bike, I'm one of the staff leaders of the Graphic Novel Book Club. I'm grateful for this opportunity and very much look forward to assisting patrons in the Decatur Township community for many years to come.

About Decatur Branch

Decatur Township was the first Marion County Township outside Center Township to receive a branch library. Opening on August 9, 1967 and located in a storefront location in the Marwood Shopping Center, 3373 Kentucky Ave., it was first named the Marwood Branch Library.

While serving the Mars Hill and Maywood neighborhoods north on Kentucky Ave. the branch also served the established rural areas further south in Decatur Township such as Camby, Valley Mills and West Newton. Circulation averaged around 80,000 to 90,000 annually while the collection size was around 5,500 books.

Strong library usage and encouragement from many Decatur Township residents helped bring the need and demand for a new separate library branch. Named for the township, the new Decatur Branch Public Library opened in a new location on July 2, 1990. The library was expanded from 2,400 to 11,300 square feet.

The new branch is located adjacent to Decatur Township High School and Middle School.
