Start Printing from Anywhere with IndyPL’s New Mobile Printing

Overview

The library has an updated mobile printing service that you can use from your own computer or mobile device. You can access the printing website or install the Public Print Locations app on a smartphone or tablet. The new service allows you to send multiple files to the printer at the same time, which the previous version did not support.

Why is this Skill Important?

Using the mobile printing service directly from your own device allows you to print your files more quickly without the need for using a library computer. Because the service is accessible online, you can actually send your files to the library printer before you even arrive at your local branch.

Print From Website

Often the easiest way to use the mobile printing service is to download any files you need to print to your own device. Next, visit indypl.org/printing to get started.

Then, add the files you want to print. You can drag and drop your files into the orange box or click the Select File button to locate your files. Once files have been added, more options will appear. Type the number of copies you need into the box and use the dropdown menus to choose your print options. Make sure to fill out these options for each file you have added! The total printing cost appears below the last file.

Printing Costs

  • Black and White = $0.15 per page
  • Color = $0.25 per page

Next, fill out the User Info section by typing a print job name in the box labeled Required. This name is what you will type into the print station at the library to pick up your print job. It’s a good idea to use something short, but unique, without any spaces.

Finally, click the Submit button to send your files to the library printer. All print jobs are held in the system for 2 hours. You can retrieve your printing from any IndyPL Branch.

Print From Email

If what you want to print is either an email message or an attachment, often the simplest method of sending it to the library printer is to forward the email to one of our designated printing email addresses.

Forward your email to the appropriate email below based on whether you need, color or black and white printing:

Printing Costs

  • Black and White = $0.15 per page
  • Color = $0.25 per page

When you arrive at the library printer, enter the beginning part of your email address— everything before the @ symbol— as the Job Name at the print station touchscreen kiosk.

Print From App

If you have a smartphone or tablet, you may be able to use the Public Print Locations app. The app is available for Android and iOS. Search your app store for the Public Print Locations app published by ePRINTit and install it. If you need help installing an app, check out our Adding New Apps: Do More with Your Device blog post. Once the app is installed, open it. The first time you use the app, you will need to agree to the Terms of Use.

Next, choose the source or service from which you would like to print. This might be the stored photos or files on your device, emails, webpages, or files located in a cloud storage service like Dropbox or Google Drive. Follow the prompts to choose what you need to print. You can select multiple files to print at the same time.

Next, tap Nearby and search for IndyPL under Providers. Choose any Indianapolis Public Library branch.

Choose the Print Job Settings for your print job, such as how many copies you need. Under User Information, give the print job a name. This name is what you will need to enter at the library to retrieve your prints. Finally, tap the Print button to create the print job.

From the app’s home screen, you can tap Your Printouts to see all print jobs you have sent and the job names you will need to enter to release them. Print jobs are held for 2 Hours. You can retrieve your printing from any IndyPL Branch.
