Whether you are planning a wedding for 4 or 450 guests, this quintessential landmark building, located in the heart of Indianapolis, proudly encourages the use of its most beautiful spaces, both indoor and outdoor, for memorable weddings and receptions, perfect for your once-in-a-lifetime event.


The glass-encased Atrium is the hub of the Central Library complex. It has breathtaking views that are perfect for your reception. The Atrium is a private space and can only be rented outside of public hours.

Simon Reading Room

Arguably the city’s most magnificent entrance room, the Simon Reading Room is an ideal wedding and event venue. Flanked by two marble staircases and rich Indiana white oak paneled walls, the room was originally unveiled in 1917 as one of the city’s finest examples of classical architecture. The Simon Reading Room is a public space and can only be rented outside of public hours.

East Garden

The East Garden’s oval lawn is surrounded by lush trees and flowers, making it perfect for intimate parties and receptions. The East Garden is a semi private space. Please inquire about reserving during public hours.

What is included in a wedding space rental?

• Free parking in our underground garage for up to 300 cars
• Mahogany wood dance floor – up to 20’x20’ **(excludes garden rentals)
• Up to 220 chairs for ceremony bookings
• Restroom attendants throughout the event
• Bride and Groom suites

What is the earliest start time I can have my wedding?

Because we are open to the public until 5 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, our earliest start time available is 6:00 p.m.

Do you allow outside catering?

We work with Ritz Charles as our exclusive caterer. No outside food or beverage may be brought in.

Does the Library allow alcohol?

Yes, all alcohol must be supplied by our exclusive caterer.

Are tables and chairs included in the room rental?

We provide up to 220 ceremony chairs at no cost. Catering will provide all tables, chairs and linens for receptions.

Can the Central Library accommodate ceremonies only?

Yes, you can host your ceremony here without hosting your reception here.

Can I have my ceremony and reception both in one space?

Absolutely! We will be happy to show you all of your options during a site tour.

Can we host our ceremony rehearsal in the same space?

We offer complimentary space for your rehearsal should the space be available. Rehearsals are usually held the day prior to your wedding.

Can I put a date on hold?

You can put a date on hold for 3 days at no charge. After the 3 days, if you choose to move forward, 50% of the room rental plus taxes will be due with contract.

Do you offer a discount for Friday or Sunday weddings?

We offer 10% off of room rental when booking a Friday or Sunday wedding.

Will my wedding be the only wedding that night?

Yes, we only host one wedding here per night which allows flexibility on space options.

Do you have audio visual equipment available to rent?

No, the clients are responsible to rent any A/V equipment from an outside vendor. We will send you a suggested vendor list upon booking our venue, if needed.

Can I bring in my own wedding cake?

Yes, it must come from a licensed baker.

Can I take engagement pictures in the library?

Yes! There is a $50.00 fee for a professional photo shoot. To arrange your photo shoot, please contact the Central Library manager.
