Central Library to host nationally renowned criminal defense attorney James H. Voyles Jr. July 28.

Indianapolis, Indiana – True crime enthusiasts and lovers of Indiana history are invited to hear the stories behind some of the nation's most high-profile criminal cases.

The Indianapolis Public Library will welcome nationally renowned criminal defense attorney James H. Voyles Jr. for a conversation about his new memoir, “ALL RISE: My Life and Trials with the Famous, the Infamous, and the Misunderstood.” This author talk, taking place July 28, 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Central Library, will offer audiences an inside look at the high-profile cases and legal battles that defined his decades-long career.

Voyles Jr. has represented high-profile athletes, celebrities, and public figures, including boxer Mike Tyson, Jim Irsay, Bobby Knight, Pat McAfee, Stephen Jackson, and Mark Sanchez. In “ALL RISE: My Life and Trials with the Famous, the Infamous, and the Misunderstood,” Voyles pulls back the curtain on a storied career that has dominated headlines for decades and offers a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the justice system through the eyes of a master litigator.

“We are excited to welcome James H. Voyles Jr. to Central Library,” said Kathy Helmond. “This author talk gives the Indianapolis community an opportunity to hear firsthand about some of the nation's most high-profile criminal cases.”

"I'm honored to have the opportunity to share stories from my life and a career that has been built in Indianapolis, a city that has shaped both my professional journey and my passion for motorsports,” Voyles said. “In nearly 60 years of practicing law, the reality of criminal defense work is rarely as simple as it's portrayed in the media. Every case involves real people, whether they’re known to the public or not, and the responsibility to uphold the principles of our justice system. I hope our conversation offers a small glimpse of some of the significant cases I've been privileged to handle, while also sharing a few stories about the practice of law and a few of the characters I’ve been able to meet along the way,” he added.

This event will take place in the Central Library Clowes Auditorium. A book signing will immediately follow the discussion, and copies of the book will be available for purchase.
