The Indianapolis Public Library invites Indianapolis residents to discover everything a library card can do. From Sept. 26–28, the Library will host Library Card Days, a three-day celebration encouraging community members to sign up for a free library card and discover the books, movies, audiobooks, e-books, tools and digital resources available.

During Library Card Days, all Indianapolis Public Library locations will celebrate the ways a library card can open the door to learning and connection with special programs, cookies, activities and opportunities to connect with Library staff. Community members can stop by to learn more about the Library’s resources and services. Anyone who signs up for a library card or shows their current card during the celebration will receive a free bookbag, while supplies last.

“The goal of Library Card Days is to remind our community that a library card opens the door to free educational resources and free entertainment,” said Gregory A. Hill, Sr., MSL, MSM, CEO, The Indianapolis Public Library. “You can stream movies and music, download e-books and audiobooks, learn a new language, get help with your homework, prepare for a job interview or even check out tools to tackle a project at home. There are so many ways to use a library card, and Library Card Days are opportunities for us to invite people to discover it all! September is also the American Library Association’s Library Card Sign-Up Month, and we’re excited to join libraries across the country in celebrating the value of a library card.”

At The Indianapolis Public Library, individuals don’t need a library card to attend free library programs, use public computers, or access books and other resources at our branch locations. However, having a library card opens the door to more possibilities, including borrowing more than 1.5 million physical items and accessing a variety of digital resources.

Cardholders can check out books, stream movies, music, e-books and audiobooks through platforms like Libby and Kanopy, get resume reviews and job coaching through Brainfuse JobNow or connect with live tutors through Brainfuse HelpNow. Cardholders can also explore dozens of online research databases, learn a new language through Mango Languages and check out useful items like sewing machines, gardening tools and assistive devices through the Library of Things.
